yeah up to a certain stage, a simple camera can get really amazing shots... its all in the person behind the camera...

unless of course you want to do some hardarse macro or something that specialized

Great photo, I love the textures in it

If you don't mind my suggesting, a wider DOF may have been good to use in the shot to pick up some more detail.
